Pannonic & Steppe
The great plains of Europe are glacial relicts and under massive pressure by modern agriculture. The wide-open landscapes are the secret biodiversity hotspot and some authors say that one square meter in the Transylvanian meadows can have the same amount of biodiversity as a square meter in the amazonian rainforest! The future of this very sensitive and old landscape is endangered by modern agriculture. Ecotourism is an important part of the conservation of these areas and it's almost a must have for every birder to visit Hungary or Romania once!
